Maiyet’s Artisans in Indonesia Create Fabrics For Spring 2013

For Maiyet, which employs artisans all over the world, the process of creating a garment is as beautiful and as interesting as the end result.

A look at how its batik gets made, here.

In its latest video, the brand takes us behind the scenes as fabric makers in Indonesia create the batik used in its Spring 2013 collection. The ancient form of dying fabrics starts with workers creating copper irons to mark out a pattern, and continues when wax is applied to the portions where dye shouldn’t seep through. The steps are then repeated until the desired look comes through.

The video below captures just how hands-on the process is. “We are lucky to experience the various different cultures and deeply connect with the craftsman we work with,” the brand’s founder, Kristy Caylor, told us. “Our partners exhibit incredible artisanship in often challenging conditions, and in doing so, consistently inspire us to reach new heights as a brand.”
